Before Our Eyes - History, Humor and Humanity
Selections from the Temple Judea Museum Photography Collection
EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION:
This large exhibition displays photographs collected over the last fifteen years by the Temple Judea Museum (TJM). Many are examples of Vernacular Photography, including historic press photographs which vividly convey the harrowing experiences of the great migration of Jews from Europe to the United States and Israel during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also displayed are photographs acquired from artists who exhibited at TJM or that were gifts to the collection. Most of the photographs were purchased for very few dollars on EBAY and reflect a broad range of the Jewish experience. A sub-set captures variations of the Magen David (Star of David) as it appears in both historic and surprising situations
NUMBER OF PHOTOGRAPHIC OBJECTS IN THE EXHIBITION:
72 Press photographs
63 Other photographs (Vernacular and fine art)
