Rabbi Lynnda Targan holds Master’s degrees in Jewish Communal Studies and Jewish Liberal Studies from Gratz College. A former public relations professional, business owner, and freelance journalist, she began her rabbinic career as a teacher of Derekh Torah at the 92nd St. Y and in the graduate program at the Florence Melton School at Gratz College. She has lectured and taught at national and international venues and is a sought-after teacher and creative officiant for lifecycle events. In 2014 she co-founded the Women’s Midrash Institute, which provides a setting for men and women to study Jewish texts in a contemporary context of feminist inquiry, and she is currently a Mussar facilitator. Her book, Funny You Don’t Like a Rabbi, A Memoir of Unorthodox Transformation was released this past spring and it was chosen by the Jewish Council. Rabbi Targan is a member of a number of women’s philanthropic organizations, and is a member of the Board of Rabbis in both New York and Philadelphia, and she is a member of the Jewish Book Council and The Author’s Guild. She has been married for over 52 years to Larry Targan, President of Integrity Textiles, Inc. The couple have two married children and two grandchildren.
