Under the leadership of Cantor Levy and Toby Grubman, our partnership with the Lowell Elementary School is flourishing. COVID presented a challenge for us last year, and this year we are not able to do all of the things we did in the past, but we are committed to helping. Some tutors are tutoring online, and some of our 6th graders are doing a variety of different activities to help support Lowell for their Mitzvah Projects.
We will be setting up our Mitzvah Menorah in November, and will wrap the gifts after our Hanukkah Shabbat service on December 3rd. That way everything can be delivered before Christmas. This year, in addition to our students, we are asking members of different groups and committees to participate in our Mitzvah Menorah. If you do not fit into one of these groups, please feel free to donate any of the gifts or supplies that are needed. Everything must be new. We are asking for the following:
*Students in grades K-3, please buy gifts for kids – ages 5-7.
*Students in grades 4-6, please buy gifts for kids – ages 8-10.
*Students in grades 7-10, please buy items for the incentive based school store.
*KIFTY and Madrichim, please buy items for the incentive based school store.
*Women of KI, please buy the school supplies listed below.
*Members of Shir KI and Music Arts, please buy the school supplies listed below.
*Members of Adult Ed. and all of our Tikkun Olam groups, please buy the canned goods or toiletries listed below.
*Board of Directors and Board of Trustees members, please buy the canned goods or toiletries listed below.
*Preschool families, please buy winter coats, hats and gloves for kids ages 5-10.
We hope everyone will support the Lowell School and purchase school uniforms, supplies and/or toys for the students, who so desperately need them. The Lowell School is a Kindergarten – 4th grade school. They need uniforms, which are light blue polo shirts, and navy or khaki pants sizes 4-16. They also need underwear, socks and winter coats, hats and gloves. They need school supplies: specifically headphones, copy paper, hand sanitizer, wipes, fine point wipe off markers, and educational games; (math and spelling cards, and matching and memory games.)
Lowell is also starting an incentive based school store this year, and desperately needs items for the store – think Dollar Store and 5 Below items: fancy pencils, lip gloss, small notebooks, fidgets, popits, nail polish, basketballs, etc.
In addition, we are also collecting non-perishable food and toiletries, (paper towels, toothpaste, soap, feminine hygiene projects, etc.) for the HaMotzi dinners. While most of these collections are ongoing, the gifts are being wrapped on December 3rd, so they need to be in by then. We will also need wrapping paper. Please be as generous as possible. If you have questions, please call the office at (215) 887-8700 and ask for Jaimie. Please come to KI at 5:00 p.m. on 12/3 if you would like to help wrap gifts from the Mitzvah Menorah before the service!
