Don't be a Bystander!

On Friday, June 28th, Rabbi Sussman gave an inspiring sermon entitled: “Drowning in Sorrow and Confusion: America, Judaism, and Immigration Policy.”

His words were so moving to me, that I felt it was important to highlight some of his thoughts with music and pictures, so I compiled the video below. He asked us for a call to action, not to be bystanders, and we as a synagogue are going to support HIAS in their efforts for the Border Crisis.
HIAS works around the world to protect refugees who have been forced to flee their homelands because of who they are, including ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities. For more than 130 years, HIAS has been helping refugees rebuild their lives in safety and dignity. We support HIAS as Jews because as in Leviticus it states, “When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not wrong them. The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love them as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt…” Leviticus 19:33–34.
