Adult education is an important part of KI’s education program. It is designed to make the study of Reform Jewish texts, beliefs and practices accessible to our KI members. KI strives to transmit Jewish values, knowledge, and learning from one generation to another in the hopes that its community of life-long learners will flourish. Fostering Jewish identity and spiritual growth along with the opportunity to socialize with other members is a major focus of the program and is designed to deepen the understanding about living a Jewish life in today’s world.

OLD YORK ROAD ADULT EDUCATION CONSORTIUM

Begun in 1979, the annual Intercongregational Adult Education Institute is a co-operative study program sponsored by Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist congregations and institutions of Jewish learning. This fall program opens with a scholarly lecture and is followed by six evening classes on diverse topics including beginning Hebrew, Jewish women’s literature, Jewish music, prayer, Bible, history, and Talmud study.

ADULT CONFIRMATION PROGRAM

This program offers the opportunity to prepare for an adult Confirmation ceremony. It includes instruction in Hebrew, Torah, and Haftarah preparation and culminates in a ceremony.

TORAH CHAVURAH

Torah Chavurah meets on Saturday mornings in the Library from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and provides a forum to study and discuss the weekly Torah portion using contemporary commentaries. The rabbis provide insight and modern interpretation to these ancient texts over coffee and cake in a casual environment. All texts are studied in English and no previous knowledge is required.
