Layers of Community Life

I am absolutely loving how alive our synagogue feels right now! The sights and sounds of community life are in full bloom, and it’s such a joy to see. Over the last few months, we have been joined by some wonderful new groups—Tide Academy (an Orthodox Jewish school), Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, and KleinLife for Seniors—all on top of the fantastic programs we already have.

It’s been especially inspiring to see the Orthodox students from Tide Academy learning in our classrooms. Their energy, alongside the familiar faces of our preschoolers, fills the building with so much life and growth. And welcoming KleinLife into our space has been heartwarming, too—I love seeing the friendships and activities unfolding.

With JQuest and Quest Noar back in session, the sounds of laughter, singing, and old friends reconnecting are everywhere I have also had the pleasure of meeting some of the members from Shaare Shamayim, our new neighbors at the end of the hallway. Their minyan and gatherings add a beautiful new layer to our community life.

Meanwhile, our Kitchen is bustling! Between our HaMotzi volunteers and the newly formed Shabbos Chefs Society, we’re cooking up meals that nourish both body and soul. Whether preparing meals for those in need or planning Shabbat dinners, the dedication and chesed (kindness) they bring is inspiring.

This week’s Torah portion, Ki Tavo, reminds me of all this. Just as our ancestors brought their first fruits to the Temple in Jerusalem as a way of expressing gratitude, I see each of you bringing your own “first fruits” to our synagogue—your time, energy, and spirit. Together, we are creating a sacred space, and it’s these contributions that make this synagogue more than just a building—it is a holy place where learning, connection, and kindness thrive.

As we dive into this busy season, let us keep bringing our best selves, building those strong bonds that hold us all together. I can’t wait to share more moments of joy and growth with all of you as we bring in 5785 together. May this New Year be filled with the gift of community life.
