Masterpieces of Jewish Literature Class with Rabbi Lance J. Sussman, Ph.D.
"Seeking Midrash," Wednesday, January 16, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
One of the most important genres of rabbinic literature is Midrash. The word Midrash means “to seek out” and specifically to seek out the meaning of biblical texts. Although there are antecedents to Midrash in earlier Hebrew literature, it is not until the first century that the early rabbis fully crystallize it as a method of Biblical interpretation. For the last 2000 years, Midrash has served as one of Judaism’s richest spiritual resources.
